We’re delighted to introduce It’s a Dog’s Life, our new collection of Indian printing blocks, created in collaboration with Suffolk-based artist and printmaker Lovely Lydia. Playful, characterful and full of movement, this joyful collection celebrates dogs of all shapes and sizes, fluffy, scruffy, long, spotty and everything in between!
Meet Lovely Lydia
Lydia is a linocut and block print artist and fabric printer based in Orford on the Suffolk Coast, where she lives with her husband Mike and their two cocker spaniels, Juno and Ivy.
Her creative journey began around ten years ago after a chance encounter with us at a fabric show. With no previous artistic background, Lydia bought a couple of hare and seedhead blocks, started experimenting with print and was hooked. Inspired by the wildlife and landscapes of the Suffolk Coast, she went on to develop her own whimsical, bold style and build a career in print and textile design.
The Inspiration
After seeing Lydia’s playful dog designs, we fell in love with their whimsical style, movement and individual personalities. We approached Lydia to expand on her original designs and create an exclusive collection of dog printing blocks in collaboration with The Indian Block Print Co.
Together, It’s a Dog’s Life grew into a joyful pack of dogs at play, each with its own character. Some resemble particular breeds, while others are deliberately less defined, allowing you to spot a familiar face amongst the pack.
As Lydia describes it, the collection is a “Canine Carnival: a joyful exuberance of dogs at play.”
A Full-Circle Collaboration
From discovering block printing through our wooden blocks ten years ago to now seeing her own designs transformed into hand-carved blocks in India, this collaboration is a special full-circle moment for Lydia.
